New Orleans-Inspired Restaurant Coming to Ormond Beach

A new family-owned restaurant is bringing authentic New Orleans flavors to Ormond Beach with an early September opening at 188 E. Granada Blvd. The menu will feature classic Cajun and Creole favorites, including muffulettas, po'boys, beignets, king cakes, and snowballs, with many ingredients imported directly from Louisiana. The restaurant aims to deliver an authentic French Quarter dining experience unlike anything else in the area.

NASCAR Returns to Daytona for the Coke Zero Sugar 400

NASCAR returns to Daytona International Speedway on August 29 for the Coke Zero Sugar 400. The 400-mile, 160-lap NASCAR Cup Series night race serves as the regular season finale, with drivers competing for valuable playoff positions in one of the sport's most exciting events. Thousands of race fans are expected to visit the Daytona Beach area for the annual tradition.

Palm Coast Approves Two New Commercial Developments

The Palm Coast Planning Board has approved two new commercial projects that will support continued growth throughout the city. The developments include two 82,000-square-foot warehouses along Commerce Boulevard near Pine Lakes Parkway and a 62,000-square-foot medical and professional office complex near Palm Harbor Parkway and Frontier Drive. Together, the projects are expected to create more than 200 new jobs while expanding business opportunities in Palm Coast.

Mortgage Rates Drop to Lowest Level in Seven Weeks

Mortgage rates declined for the week, providing encouraging news for homebuyers.

  • 30-year fixed-rate mortgage: 6.43%, down from 6.49%
  • 15-year fixed-rate mortgage: 5.79%, down from 5.84%

Lower mortgage rates can improve affordability and purchasing power for buyers looking to purchase a home throughout Volusia and Flagler Counties.

Palm Coast Walmart Proposal, New Ormond Beach Ice Cream Shop & More Local News

This week's local update includes a proposed Walmart Supercenter in Palm Coast, a new ice cream shop in Ormond Beach, the sale of Ocean Palm Golf Course in Flagler Beach, and a new restaurant opening in Daytona Beach.

Walmart on State Road 100 Clears Planning Board Review

The Palm Coast Planning Board unanimously recommended approval of a proposed 240,000+ square-foot Walmart Supercenter on State Road 100, west of BJ's Wholesale Club.

The project is expected to generate nearly 20,000 daily vehicle trips and approximately 200 jobs. The proposal now moves to the Palm Coast City Council for final approval.

The Frozen Frog Opens in Ormond Beach

The Frozen Frog has opened at 1498 W. Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach.

The shop offers Hershey's ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes, shaved ice, and gluten-free options. The business began as a snow cone trailer before expanding into a permanent location.

Ocean Palm Golf Course Sale Officially Closes

The sale of Ocean Palm Golf Club in Flagler Beach has officially closed for $801,333.

The 37-acre property at 3600 S. Central Avenue was previously city-owned. New ownership plans future improvements and upgrades to the golf course.

New Smashburger Restaurant Opens in Daytona Beach

Smash N' Crunch opened June 6 at 1173 W. International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

The restaurant serves smashburgers, hand-breaded chicken tenders, and loaded fries in the former Original Famous Philly's location.
