Sprouts Farmers Market Moves Closer to New Smyrna Beach Opening
New Smyrna Beach is getting closer to welcoming a new Sprouts Farmers Market at State Road 44 and South Myrtle Avenue. The store is planned as part of a new shopping center that will also include TJ Maxx.
The project is currently moving through the approval process. Sprouts is known for fresh produce, organic and healthy foods, plant-based products, and specialty grocery items. The new shopping center would add another convenient shopping option for residents in the growing New Smyrna Beach area.
Ormond Beach Considers Purchase of Former Osceola Elementary Site
The City of Ormond Beach is considering purchasing the 11.6-acre former Osceola Elementary School property at 100 Osceola Avenue on the beachside.
City commissioners have directed staff to submit a letter of intent and negotiate a purchase price of up to $2.5 million. If purchased, the property could potentially be used for recreation, stormwater management, or additional beach parking.
If the city does not acquire the property, the site could potentially be developed with approximately 30 to 40 homes, making the property an important consideration for future development in Ormond Beach.
$35 Million Beach Renourishment Project Approved in Flagler County
Flagler County has approved a $35 million beach renourishment project covering approximately 5.5 miles of coastline, from North 7th Street in Flagler Beach to Varn Park north of Beverly Beach.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2027 and take approximately four to six months. The project is expected to add approximately 1.5 million cubic yards of sand to the shoreline.
Nearly $31 million will come from state and federal funding, with Flagler County contributing approximately $4.2 million. The project represents a significant investment in the county's coastline and could help protect coastal communities while maintaining the beaches that attract residents and visitors.
Free Beach Parking Expanding in New Smyrna Beach in 2027
Beginning January 1, 2027, Volusia County's free ParkVolusia resident permit will expand to seven New Smyrna Beach off-beach parking lots.
The change will create one registration system for county and participating city parking lots, eliminating the need for residents to maintain a separate New Smyrna Beach parking permit. Current ParkVolusia permit holders will automatically receive access to the seven participating lots.
