Daytona Beach Approves 34-Unit Townhome Development

On October 21, Daytona Beach city commissioners approved the Daytona Landing project, which will bring 34 townhomes to a 5.7-acre site near LPGA Boulevard. The developer worked with neighboring residents to refine the design, including architectural features that fit the surrounding area and a 50-foot natural buffer. Permitting is expected to take 18 to 24 months before construction begins.

Palm Coast officials celebrated the completion of major improvements at Waterfront Park on October 23. The final phase included a new 3,500-square-foot shaded pavilion and a 100-space parking lot. The improvements wrap up a multiyear project funded through impact fees and navigation grants.

Nara Thai Sushi Opening Soon in New Smyrna Beach

A new restaurant is expected to open around Thanksgiving in the Venetian Bay community of New Smyrna Beach. Nara Thai Sushi, located at 424 Luna Bella Lane, is owned by Craig Finney, who created Bowl Thai Cafe on Flagler Avenue.

The 2,200-square-foot restaurant plans to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its menu will include a sushi bar, Thai specialties, seafood entrees and rotating daily specials.

Mayday Handcrafted Ice Cream Announces Palm Coast Location

The Daytona Beach City Commission approved rezoning for a major expansion of The Brown, formerly the Museum of Arts and Sciences, on September 23.

White Castle Sets Grand Opening Date in Daytona Beach

White Castle will open its new Daytona Beach location September 22 at 1944 LPGA Boulevard, with a 9 a.m. ribbon-cutting and a full day of opening festivities. An 11-story luxury condominium called Aegean is being proposed along South Peninsula Drive in Daytona Beach. The Greek-island-inspired development would include 160 condos, an 88-slip marina, water taxi service, a resort-style pool, parking garage, restaurants and recreational amenities.

Palm Coast Approves New Flagler Landings Walmart

On September 1, Palm Coast City Council unanimously approved the Flagler Landings site plan, clearing the way for a new 186,276-square-foot Walmart along State Road 100. The 38.81-acre development will include shared infrastructure and parking. The developer will also contribute approximately $4.1 million toward improvements to State Road 100 to address the project's transportation impacts.

HSR Daytona Classic 24 Returns to Daytona International Speedway

Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) returns to Daytona International Speedway November 11–15 for the HSR Daytona Classic 24. The event will feature historic race cars, including former winners of the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans. Fans can visit the paddock, see the cars up close and meet drivers and racing legends.

A new entertainment destination has opened in Ormond Beach. Cue Note Billiard Room celebrated its grand opening and ribbon cutting on September 3.

Located at 1140 W. Granada Blvd., the new venue features 15 pool tables, three golf simulators and two soft-tip dart games. Cue Note also offers billiard leagues, a full restaurant menu and a liquor bar.

New Flagler Beach Pier Will Offer Free Public Access

The new Flagler Beach Pier will offer free public access when it reopens, eliminating the previous $1.50 admission fee and $6 fishing fee.

Flagler Beach city commissioners also approved several new rules for the pier. Pets will not be allowed, and the pier will not have a bait shop.

Instead, the former bait shop space will be used for a lifeguard station. The changes are part of the city's plans for the new Flagler Beach Pier and will provide residents and visitors with free access to one of the area's most recognizable coastal attractions.

Halifax Art Festival Returns to Daytona Beach

The 64th Annual Halifax Art Festival returns to downtown Daytona Beach November 7–8 along Beach Street and the Riverfront Esplanade.

The award-winning festival will feature more than 150 juried artists and artisans showcasing fine art and crafts. Visitors can also enjoy live entertainment and other activities throughout the event.

The Halifax Art Festival attracts more than 35,000 art lovers each year, making it one of the area's largest annual arts events and another major attraction for downtown Daytona Beach.

New Cuban Bakery Opens in Ormond Beach

Mimi's Cuban Bakery opened August 24 at 1220 Hand Ave. in Ormond Beach.

The bakery serves handmade Cuban pastries, desserts, sandwiches, coffee, Cuban bread, croquetas and papas rellenas. The business previously sold its pastries at farmers' markets in Flagler Beach and Port Orange before opening its first brick-and-mortar location in Ormond Beach.

The new bakery gives residents another local option for Cuban food and pastries while adding to the growing number of independent businesses serving the Ormond Beach community.
