New $31 Million Rehabilitation Hospital Coming to Palm Coast

Palm Coast continues to grow with the approval of a new $31 million ClearSky Health rehabilitation hospital.

The Palm Coast City Council approved the sale of 8.5 acres at the former Whispering Pines redevelopment site along State Road 100. The planned 36-bed facility is expected to create more than 100 full-time jobs while expanding specialized healthcare services throughout Flagler County.

The hospital will provide rehabilitation for patients recovering from strokes, heart attacks, orthopedic injuries, brain and spinal cord injuries, pulmonary illnesses, and cancer, making it another significant investment in the area's future.

National Restaurant Chain PEI WEI Asian Kitchen Coming to Daytona Beach

Another nationally recognized restaurant is planning to expand into Daytona Beach.

PEI WEI Asian Kitchen is preparing to make its Daytona Beach debut with a menu featuring customer favorites including Orange Chicken, Mongolian Steak, Kung Pao Chicken, rice bowls, noodles, and other Asian-inspired dishes.

The fast-casual restaurant offers Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese-inspired cuisine. Although the company has confirmed plans to enter the Daytona Beach market, it has not yet announced an exact location, opening date, or construction timeline.

The addition reflects the continued residential and commercial growth taking place throughout Volusia County.

The project will now continue through site plan approval and permitting before construction begins.

As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, projects like this add new entertainment and recreational opportunities for both residents and visitors while helping revitalize existing commercial properties.

New Mixed-Use Development Proposed Near I-95 in New Smyrna Beach

A proposed 181-acre mixed-use development near Interstate 95 and State Road 44 received a recommendation for approval from the New Smyrna Beach Planning and Zoning Board.

Plans include:

• Residential housing
• Retail shopping
• Restaurants
• Hotel
• Medical offices
• Warehouse space
• Assisted living facilities

The project will still require City Commission approval and will include additional design and stormwater review.

Developments like this continue to support New Smyrna Beach's steady population growth and expanding local economy.

Port Orange Investing Nearly $5 Million in Stormwater Improvements

The City of Port Orange is moving forward with the $4.93 million Portona Area Drainage Improvements Project.

The project will include:

• Two new stormwater retention ponds
• Upgraded drainage infrastructure
• Reduced neighborhood flooding
• Improved water quality
• Better storm protection for nearby homes

Infrastructure improvements like these help strengthen neighborhoods while improving long-term community resilience.

Daytona Beach Shores Considering Name Change

Residents may soon vote on changing the city's official name from Daytona Beach Shores to simply "The Shores."

If approved, the proposal would appear on the November ballot. City officials say the change is intended to strengthen branding while improving tourism and business recognition. The proposal would not change city boundaries or government operations.

The popular Village Hops & Harvest event returns to European Village in Palm Coast on September 3 from 6:00–9:00 PM. Guests can enjoy craft beer tastings, seasonal food, live music, local artisans, boutique shopping, and festive fall décor. The event is one of the many community gatherings that make Palm Coast and Flagler County popular destinations for residents and visitors.

Double Dippin Opening First Brick-and-Mortar Restaurant in Holly Hill

Award-winning food truck Double Dippin is opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 235 Riverside Dr., Suite 85, Holly Hill. Scheduled to open later this year, the new Holly Hill restaurant will continue serving its popular birria tacos, grilled cheese sandwiches, quesadillas, and ramen bowls. The 1,600-square-foot location will also feature outdoor seating near Riverside Park, bringing another unique dining destination to Volusia County.

New Orleans-Inspired Restaurant Coming to Ormond Beach

The developments include two 82,000-square-foot warehouses along Commerce Boulevard near Pine Lakes Parkway and a 62,000-square-foot medical and professional office complex near Palm Harbor Parkway and Frontier Drive. Together, the projects are expected to create more than 200 new jobs while expanding business opportunities in Palm Coast.

Mortgage Rates Drop to Lowest Level in Seven Weeks

Mortgage rates declined for the week, providing encouraging news for homebuyers.

• 30-year fixed-rate mortgage: 6.43%, down from 6.49%
• 15-year fixed-rate mortgage: 5.79%, down from 5.84%

Walmart on State Road 100 Clears Planning Board Review

The Palm Coast Planning Board unanimously recommended approval of a proposed 240,000+ square-foot Walmart Supercenter on State Road 100, west of BJ's Wholesale Club.

The project is expected to generate nearly 20,000 daily vehicle trips and approximately 200 jobs. The proposal now moves to the Palm Coast City Council for final approval.

The Frozen Frog Opens in Ormond Beach

The Frozen Frog has opened at 1498 W. Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach.

The shop offers Hershey's ice cream, milkshakes, sundaes, shaved ice, and gluten-free options. The business began as a snow cone trailer before expanding into a permanent location.

Ocean Palm Golf Course Sale Officially Closes

The sale of Ocean Palm Golf Club in Flagler Beach has officially closed for $801,333.

The 37-acre property at 3600 S. Central Avenue was previously city-owned. New ownership plans future improvements and upgrades to the golf course.

New Smashburger Restaurant Opens in Daytona Beach

Smash N' Crunch opened June 6 at 1173 W. International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

The restaurant serves smashburgers, hand-breaded chicken tenders, and loaded fries in the former Original Famous Philly's location.
